Pokemon Bank Service Goes Free With 3DS eShop Shutting Down Next Year

The Pokemon Company has officially announced that the Pokemon Bank service will now be free when the 3DS eShop is closed.

In a recent article on the official Twitter account from business, it was revealed that as soon as the 3DS eShop closes in March 2023, players will be able to access the Pokemon Bank for free. Since this is an app for the 3DS that can store their collected Pokémon across multiple titles, if the store is closed there will be no way to access it.

Fans of Pokemon games have depended on this special storage for their Pokemon collected from multiple titles, as it served as a way for them to safely store their catches. It can store up to 3000 Pokémon online and has its own subscription fee of only $4.99 per year. There’s even a 30-day free trial for fans. There is another app specifically used for transferring Pokemon, which was the Poke Transporter.

The Pokemon Company has confirmed that the Pokemon Bank app and service will still work as it will until March 2023. After that, the service will be free for anyone who has already downloaded the app on their Nintendo 3DS. This free period will last for an indefinite limited time, so be prepared for another update at a later date.

Pokémon Bank is still available on Nintendo 3DS.
