SRINAGAR / JAMMU, November 1: Guards at J&K Bank ATM today staged a protest in Jammu as well as Srinagar, alleging that the new company that has overtaken the bank’s security is laying off most of them as ‘at the same time they are facing wage cuts.
In Srinagar, dozens of these guards appeared in the Press Enclave and brandished slogans in support of their demands while claiming that they were victims of injustice from the new society. Protesters said they had been working as security guards for more than 10 years and suddenly they were either fired or subject to pay cuts.

They said they did not have a problem with the change in the company, but instead opposed the reduction in wages and the dismissal of employees which should be canceled without further delay. According to protesters, they used to have Rs 7,500 on hand as monthly salary while Rs 1,600 was deducted separately as CP fund, however, now they only get Rs 5,500 on hand as monthly salary which they claim is no is not enough to make their ends come together. The protesters called on President J&K Bank to look into the matter and take the necessary steps so that they do not have to face a pay cut.
Also in Jammu, hundreds of security guards protecting ATMs, ATMs and bank branches gathered outside the J&K Bank zone office in Bahu Plaza and held a sit -in, requesting the intervention of Lieutenant-Governor Manoj Sinha and the management of the bank to ensure them decent salaries.
“We have gathered here to protest against falling wages at a time when the prices of basic necessities, including kitchen items, except gasoline and diesel, have skyrocketed, making the life of the miserable common man, ”said former paramilitary soldier Balbir. Singh, who was leading the protest, said.
Later, a delegation of protesters met with bank officials and the protest ended with their assurances that they would address the issue with the company concerned.
Meanwhile, BD Security Private Limited, which was awarded the contract to provide security services to J&K Bank while issuing a statement, said that according to the letter of intent received from the bank, they must give the deployment of security guards from today November 1) and as such, they sent his guards to various locations, including that of the zone office where already a group of at least 100 security guards not on Company rosters began to cause a ruckus upon seeing the new deployment and forced the Company to perform their duties as per contract
“To make sure that the banking services are not disbursed and going smoothly, especially on festive days and with the feelings of these people in mind, we even took a call to pay these security guards for them. salaries paid to them by the previous agency just a month ago and General Manager and CEO Tejinder Singh showed up and announced the same salary rate in writing as per the request of the lost security guards, but they refused to agree to the same and applied for a higher salary which could not be accepted by as he had already exceeded his limits just to provide smooth services to J&K Bank, ”the company said.
