‘Abbas’s autocracy has led to security chaos in the West Bank’ – Middle East Monitor

Palestinian MP Sheikh Nayef Al-Rajoub said on Friday that the autocracy of Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas has led to security chaos in the occupied West Bank, Al Resalah reports the newspaper.

Al-Rajoub described the PA as “the worst repressive and autocratic regime” because all authorities are held by one man – its leader.

He said Abbas dissolved parliament in 2007 and made himself the legislative and executive arm of the PA while ruling by presidential decrees.

“This situation has led to many problems, including security chaos in the occupied West Bank,” Al-Rajoub said, citing the recent assassination attempt on former Prime Minister Nasser Al-Din Al-Shaer.

“If there had been a transparent judicial system and a free parliament, there would have been no security chaos or rising prices,” he stressed, calling for the importance of renewing the institutions of the PA.

Al-Rajoub also called for reviewing the form of the current constitutional, judicial and administrative courts formed by the PA president instead of the parliament.

The MP also said that Abbas had monopolized the formation of Palestinian governments, pointing out that all his decisions and decrees were unconstitutional.

Al-Rajoub hailed the actions of the Palestinian Bar against Abbas for monopolizing all authorities.

OPINION: Washington is the problem, not the solution, so why is Abbas looking for new “powerful” sponsors?
